Anchored backlinks are synonymous with off page search engine optimization. In fact, it has been said to be the strategy to get any site to the top of Google. If you are not at the top of Google, no problem, just get more anchored backlinks.
I would classify the various techniques you can get anchored backlinks into 3 main areas:
Backlinks From Your Own Websites Or Blogs
Creating your own websites and blogs for the purpose of obtaining anchored backlinks is a common practice. But it should not be used to the exclusion of other backlinking techniques, and do remember that not all backlinks are created equal.
Post To Forums, Blogs And Web Directories
Getting your website listed in the relevant directories is a good way of getting an anchored backlink. Another way would be to participate in forums, in which you are usually allowed a backlink to your website in your signature. You can also comment in blogs, in which there usually is a field where you can leave a link to your website or blog.
Getting A Third Party To Post Your Backlink
This is about going out there and asking other people to link to your website. In many respects, this is harder that the previous 2 techniques, but pays handsome dividends as these type of links are considered to be of a higher quality by the search engines.
I have listed below the more standard ways of getting anchored backlinks from webmasters and third party websites below. These are by no means the only ways and you are encouraged to come up with better and more innovative ways and ways that are more suitable for your talents and resources.
* Exchange Links. Webmasters have been exchanging links since the early days of the Internet. Links are exchanged between the link directories or the home pages of the sites doing the exchange.
* Link Bait. In this technique, you come up with content so good that you don’t even have to ask for a link. The webmasters will automatically link to you because it enhances the value of their site. Stuff that is humorous, controversial or downright weird would work well.
* Give Away Something Useful. Find something to give away like a free ebook, or free web templates, or a free report. Make sure that your site is referenced somewhere in the gift or ask for a link in exchange for the gift.
Conclusion
It was much harder to get anchored backlinks in the early days of the Internet. Nowadays, with social sites like Facebook, Twitter and others, it is sometimes as easy as just asking for a link. However, the competition for links has also increased, so you will still need to stand out with quality content. After all is said and done, the phrase: “Content is king” still holds true.
